Saab Key Programming
Saab cars made since 1994 feature an immobilizer system that relies on coded keys. The addition of a key requires a new transponder, as well as special programming. This is usually done at the dealer with a specialized Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The issue is that it can be extremely expensive. This is why you should always have a spare key at hand.
Transponder key
The transponder keys are keys with an electronic chip that transmits a signal to the car when it is placed in the ignition. The car will then check the signal to determine if it matches the one on the key. If both signals match it will open itself and begin. This is a great method to stop car theft and keep your vehicle safe from thieves.
Transponder keys are a favored feature in automobiles, but it is important to know that they aren't as secure as traditional metal keys. While the metal part of a conventional key can be cut and copied, a transponder is protected by an electronic chip. The chip has a unique code that is programmed into a car's computer in order to identify it.
When a Saab key fob is used, the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. The car will only recognize the key fob when it has an unmodified chip and programmed to match. The car won't start if the key is not programmed to match.
It is important to have an extra Saab key. This is particularly important if you reside in a rural region that has numerous car thieves. You can obtain a replacement key for your Saab by going to the dealership and not paying their high prices. In the majority of cases, you can have an original key made on the spot for less than half the cost you would pay at the dealer.
Key for Wired
Saab cars are usually provided with two keys. If you only have one, you need to purchase an extra key as soon as you can. This is because, if it's lost and the car is damaged, it will require an entirely new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This can be costly especially for cars that are used.
The next step is to connect the wires for columns and row to your microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and will require a great deal of soldering. It's not a common way to go about it, but you should determine how to route and connect each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller wires as well as pins to connect to this keyboard. It has 5 rows and 17 column.
After the columns and rows are soldered, it's time to connect them to the key switches. Solder a diode on each key switch pin. This will protect the pins from current, thus preventing them from getting shorted. saab 9-3 key can only allow the current to flow in a single direction, and has a a black band visual indicator that indicates the direction current will flow.
Some of the tools available at auto parts stores- such as the Autel MaxiIM IM608 Pro and IM508 -- could help shop customers or even DIY customers in some cases replace keys in the program and restore the lost immobilizer's data, Sanabria says. The tools connect to OBD ports and guide the user through each step which makes the process much easier than replacing the car's computer.
Jump-starting the battery
Most people keep a set of jumper cables in their trunks for emergency situations however, jumping a battery on newer cars might not be the best idea. These cars are equipped with a variety of digital and computer systems that communicate with one another. A surge in voltage when the battery is connected another could cause damage to the components and render your vehicle unusable.

Connect the cables to the vehicle working. Let it run for two minutes. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that is good. (It will read "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface underneath the disabled vehicle's hood. An engine block is an excellent choice. The black cable is not to be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could cause sparks, which would ignite gasoline in the engine compartment.
Once the cables are connected, turn on the disabled vehicle and let it run for about five minutes before disconnecting them in reverse order. Remember that the battery on your Saab 9-3 is charged during your drive, which means it may take some time for the battery to go down. It is recommended to purchase another key fob when you can. The replacement of the one that works requires the installation and programming of a new computer chip.
Replacement case
Saab owners typically only have one car key, and if that is lost, they'll be charged. The reason for this is that it's not cheap to purchase a new key, and that involves replacing the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE on older models, as well as programming. In the event of theft, or any other catastrophe it is recommended to have an extra key. Even when the key is "new", it will not function.
The majority of locksmiths won't be able to help when you only have one working key, and the dealer will charge high prices to replace the computer in your car to make a new replacement. We can, however, reset and reprogram the computer's EEPROM to prepare it to accept a new key without replacing the entire system. This could save you a significant amount of money. It's less expensive instead of waiting until you lose the only key.
